Continuing my streak of bands who never got their due when they were around, I'd like to share with you all Good Night & Good Morning. April 25, 2022--today, if you're reading on announcement day--marks 10 years since the launch of their only LP, Narrowing Type.
Around the time of release, reviews were scant but overwhelmingly positive. Good Night & Good Morning broke up soon afterwards.
In much the same way a song like "Median II" develops itself in a gradual, naturally-paced way, Narrowing Type achieved classic status in slowcore circles with time, intrigue, and word of mouth. Many attribute this to its mysterious background, as details of its conception--and even its performers--remained largely unknown to even the most devoted listeners. Others (myself included) are more fascinated with the music itself: Tangled threads of ambient haze, re-appropriated tape sampling, and (arguably the album's signature flair) subtle vibraphone splendor, all filtered through the lens of a nontraditional slowcore record.
I'm proud to present the second release from Energy Crow Records: Narrowing Type, 10-Year Anniversary Edition.
The band and I worked hard over the last several months to make this release possible. Speaking candidly, when I reached out and our first Zoom call went over well, it was the best thing that had happened to me all month. Energy Crow might be primarily aimed at making dreams come true, but I don't know which side of this exchange felt that more, me or them! Our meetings would frequently get distracted from the actual business talk and become hours of telling stories and gushing about music we loved. Getting to do all this with the band behind one of my all-time favorite albums, and organize its 10-year anniversary reissue--who could ask for more?
Narrowing Type / ECR-02 Specs:
- New vinyl master for the project, utilizing the album's original engineer to bring it an ideal sound for the format, and updating it from the original pressing
- New custom insert spread with official lyrics for the first time, handwritten by frontman Ryan Brewer
- Matte-finish jackets and audiophile black vinyl, each explicitly per the band's wishes
- Bonus cassette of B-sides, outtakes, and demos w/ OBI included with the first 50 orders
- Total run limited to 300 copies
